Kerala is often referred to as “ Gods Own country!! If you are planning a holiday here, there are plenty of activities and attractions to explore. Set in the southern west coast of India, Kerala is rich in culture and tradition as well as natural beauty and wildlife. Its magnificent monuments and temples stand as a testimony to the art and architecture skills that the locals possessed while rejuvenating Ayurveda spas and massages give the proof of their healing powers. Lush hill stations, exquisite backwaters lined by palm trees, calm serene beaches, warm hospitality and excellent accommodation anything you name, Kerala has it. Hence, it being selected as one of the the 50 lifetime destinations by National geographic traveler was not a surprise.

For those who like to travel, traveling by houseboat leisurely cruising through the backwaters that consists of lakes and ocean inlets that go deep inland into Kuttanad, Alleppy and Kollam will be a new experience. These wooden boats known as ‘Kettuvallam’ are virtually houses on water. They offer food right down to the local rustic cuisine often made using freshly caught fish and provide comfortable spaces to relax while watching the vivid village life pass you by on either shores of the water.

Another top attraction is the beaches and Kerala has plenty of them. In fact, the whole western edge of Kerala is one long coastline to Arabian Sea. Kovalam Beach, Varkala Beach, Cherai, Kappad, Muzhappilangad, Bekal..The list is endless and each can offer something unique for the guests.

Athirappally  tops the list of waterfalls while Parambikulam, Periyar and Thekkady and Silent Valley offer wildlife on display. Kerala has a large population of captive elephants too. They are a major part of the festivities related to temples complete with stunning embellishments. GajaMela (Parade of Elephants), Aanayoottu (mass feeding of elephants) and Aanayottam (elephant race) are also some of the events organised by the authorities that can be of interest to the tourists.

On the east edge of Kerala are the highlands, offering cool climate and a number of  beautiful hillstations green carpeted by coffee and tea plantations. There are quite afew peaks in Kerala, Ponmudi, Agastyakoodam,Rajamala, Anamudi, Nelliyampathy, Brahmagiri are some of them offering scope for trekking, camping for the adventure minded.
In addition to all this Kerala offers a tasty  local cuisine, number of festivals and events all year around, opulent classical and folk art forms, various land, water sports, and shopping opportunities to take home memorable souvenirs from the trip.
